ISIS Conspiracy Case: 7-Year Jail Sentence For Chennai-Based Engineer

Chennai-based engineer Mohamed Naser Packeer has been sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 40,000in an Islamic State (ISIS) conspiracy case.

A certified ethical hacker from Chennai, Naser had been working as a web developer and graphic designer in Dubai in 2014, reported Hindustan Times.

According to the National Investigating Agency (NIA), a case — pertaining to criminal conspiracy hatched by ISIS to recruit youths in India through social media platforms — was registered on December 9, 2015, under IPC sections 18, 18B, 38 and 39 of UA (P) Act, 1967.

NIA said the main objective of ISIS was to establish a Caliphate by indulging in terrorist activities across different countries in the world including India.

On June 3, 2020, NIA  filed chargesheets against 16 accused, including Naser. The 15 others have already been convicted and sentenced, up to 10 years rigorous imprisonment by the special court of NIA.
