ISKCON Cancels ‘Untimely’ Rath Yatra In Houston
Bhubaneswar: Facing a strong opposition from the devotees of Lord Jagannath and Puri Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb’s warning, the ISKCON has announced cancellation of its proposed untimely Rath Yatra in Houston, US.
In a press release on Tuesday evening, Tukaram Das, vice-president, International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) Bhubaneswar, said the Houston Rath Yatra, scheduled on November 9, has been cancelled respecting the sentiments of devotees of Lord Jagannath in Odisha.
However, the ISKCON would organise the Gour Nitai Sankirtan Yatra on the day, he said. “National Communications Director Yudhistir Govinda Prabhu informed about cancellation of Rath Yatra and holding the Gour Nitai Sankirtan Yatra after his discussion with Anuttama Prabhu, member of ISKCON’s Governing Body Commission and GBC Minister for Communications,” said the release.
Earlier in the day, Gajapati Maharaja told the media that legal action would be initiated against the ISKCON if it did not refrain from holding untimely Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath.
