Bhubaneswar: Three players will share captaincy duties for Odisha FC in the eighth edition of Indian Super League (ISL).
Vinit Rai, Victor Mongil and Hector Rodas were voted for the honour and will take turns to wear the captain’s armband in the upcoming season. Vinit is an Indian, while Mongil and Rodas are Spaniards.
Odisha FC will open their campaign with a match against Bengaluru FC on November 24. All teams will play 20 games with the top four advancing to the playoff stage.
To identify three captains, every player were asked to jot down three names on a paper and drop it into a box. Of the three names, at least one had to be that of an Indian player.
“The coaching staff also took part in the voting process,” said Assistant Coach Kino Garcia.
All three captains were delighted to be entrusted with the responsibility.
“It’s a pride and a responsibility for me. My teammates trust me and I am here to help them in any way I can,” Rodas said.
Mongil thanked his teammates for giving him the chance to defend values of the club and the squad both on the field and outside.
Vinit Rai looked forward to an exciting season.
“If we work hard and put our 100% effort in every training and every ISL game, we will get our results… we will do whatever it takes to win matches because I strongly believe that the harder we work the luckier we get,” he remarked.
