ISL: Own Goal Hurts As Odisha FC Go Down To Mumbai City FC
Mumbai: Odisha FC failed to follow up their fantastic win in the campaign-opener of ISL and lost 0-2 to Mumbai City FC on Saturday evening.
Unlike on Tuesday, when Odisha conceded 2 early goals against Jamshedpur FC before staging an epic recovery, Josep Gombau’s boys stood their ground to deny the home team in the first half.
And it was only an own goal, five minutes after change of ends, that hurt Odisha FC. Goalkeeper Amrinder Singh, who had a brilliant game, stretched out his leg to effect a save but the ricochet struck defender Shubham and rolled into his own goal.
That goal didn’t deter Odisha FC from abandoning their positive approach. Led by Diego Mauricio, they raided the Mumbai citadel quite often. But the equalizer eluded them.
Rubbing salt into their wound, Bipin Singh scored in injury time, literally with the final kick of the match.
After two matches on the road, Odisha FC will play their first home game on October 23, against Kerala Blasters. It will be Odisha’s first match at Kalinga Stadium since the 2019-2020 season, thanks to COVID-19.
