Asaluyeh, Iran: Israel launched a powerful strike on Iran’s key South Pars petrochemical complex in Asaluyeh on Monday hitting one of the country’s most vital industrial hubs, according to the Fars news agency and Israeli officials.

Multiple blasts were reported at the South Pars Petrochemical complex along the Persian Gulf coast, engulfing parts of the sprawling industrial site in flames and sending thick plumes of smoke over the Asaluyeh corridor, a major centre for Iran’s petrochemical and gas‑processing operations.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz confirmed the operation, stating explicitly that the target was the largest petrochemical facility in Iran. “We have just carried out a powerful strike on the largest petrochemical facility in Iran, located in Asaluyeh, a central target responsible for about 50% of the country’s petrochemical production,” Katz said in remarks widely carried by international news agencies.

In a video statement, Katz linked the attack directly to ongoing Iranian missile and rocket fire aimed at Israeli civilians and warned of a broader campaign. “As long as missile fire continues to target Israeli civilians, Iran will pay a heavy price that will degrade and ultimately cripple its national infrastructure and the operational capacity of the regime,” he said.

Katz also vowed sustained pressure on Iran’s security and leadership structures. “At the same time, we will continue to pursue and neutralise the leadership of terror, and strike security targets and strategic assets throughout Iran,” he added.

The latest strike follows a series of Israeli and US attacks on Iranian steel and petrochemical facilities that Israel and Washington allege channel tens of billions of dollars into the coffers of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and its weapons programmes.
