It Might Be Awkward, Says Wikipedia Requesting Indians To Donate Rs 150
Bhubaneswar: Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia, has requested its Indian users to donate at least Rs 150 for their services.
On Wednesday, Wikipedia started displaying a message appealing to Indian users to donate money to keep it thriving in future.
Wikipedia is a not-for-profit organization that operates on donations from readers. It is created and edited by volunteers around the world and hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation.
The message says, “Hi, reader in India, it seems you use Wikipedia a lot; that’s great! It’s a little awkward to ask, but this Wednesday we need your help. We’re a non-profit and we don’t have salespeople. We depend on donations from exceptional readers; fewer than 2% give. If you donate just ₹ 150, or whatever you can this Wednesday, Wikipedia could keep thriving. Thank you.”
However, this is not the first time that Wikipedia has displayed such a message. But, this time, it has specifically requested Indians to financially help them.
