Patna: The result of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar is out. Over 65 lakh voter enumeration forms in the draft electoral rolls in the state have been left out, the Election Commission of India (ECI) disclosed.
The number includes several voters who have died, moved out of Bihar, not found, or registered more than once.
Of the 65 lakh-plus voter forms, capital city Patna accounts for the highest with 3.95 lakh, followed by Madhubani (3.52 lakh), East Champaran (3.16 lakh) and Gopalganj (3.10 lakh).
The total number of 7.9 crore registered voters has thus been reduced to 7.24 crore post the ECI revision.
The SIR exercise covered all 243 assembly constituencies and 90,817 polling stations in Bihar, where Assembly polls are due in October-November.
Break-up of 65 lakh gap
Of the 65 lakh-odd voters who will miss out, 22.34 lakh people have died, 36.28 lakh ‘permanently shifted’ out of the state or were ‘not found’ at their stated addresses, and 7.01 lakh found to have enrolled at ‘more than one place’.
The draft voters’ roll for Bihar, published on Friday, is available on ECI’s website and in all 38 districts of Bihar.
“Draft Electoral Rolls for Bihar, covering each of the 243 assembly constituencies and 90,817 polling stations, are being shared with all political parties by the 38 District Collectors at 11 am today, i.e. 1 August 2025,” ANI quoted the Election Commission as saying earlier in the day.
Following the data being made public, a ‘claims and objections’ phase has started, and will last till September 1. It will give voters who think their names were wrongly deleted the chance to approach relevant authorities for redressal.
A final list will be published only after the redressal phase is over.
