New Delhi: There’s nothing like a full weekend, in which you are spoilt for choice on what to watch on OTT and television. You’re almost tempted to do ‘eeny meeny miny moe’ to pick one.
The problem with web series is that they are like Adam’s apple. One bite, and you want to chew it all. You have to finish it over the weekend because beginning Monday is another week! Didn’t wise men say, ‘don’t leave today’s work to tomorrow?’
So, let’s see what we have this weekend.
The Great Indian Murder (Disney+Hotstar)
This one comes from ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ fame Tigmanshu Dhulia’s table. Reason enough to pick it as the first choice. Co-produced by Ajay Devgn and Priti Sinha, daughter of ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ producer Vinay Sinha, it is based on bestselling author Vikas Swarup’s 2016 racy murder mystery ‘Six Suspects’. It boasts of a stellar star cast beginning with Ashutosh Rana, Prateek Gandhi, Richa Chadha, Paoli Dam, Sharib Hashmi, Raghubir Yadav and a sprinkling of other impressive new and old actors. A high-profile murder at a glittering Delhi farmhouse party, six suspects, and their stories, the narrative, like the novel, borrows from real-life incidents.
The story of multiple plotlines, it encapsulates Delhi’s upper crust in one dialogue, “Dilli bhi toh gol-gol hain… Shaher chhahe kitna bhi bada ho bade logon ka circle hamesha chhota hi hota hai.”
Looop Lapeta (Netflix)
This Taapsee Pannu and Tahir Raj Bhasin starrer is an absolute winner even though this is not the first time that the Delhi girl has enacted such a role. Adapted from ‘Run Lola Run’, Aakash Bhatia’s ‘Looop Lapeta’ really has no surprises yet it wins your heart.
Savi (Taapsee) is an athlete (not surprising anymore) struggling to come to terms with the fact she will never run again after a freak accident destroyed her knee. She contemplates suicide, jumping off the hospital terrace, hovers over the ledge, when Satya (Tahir) enters her life and the terrace, struggling to light a smoke with a damp matchstick. Sparks fly. For the rest, watch the movie.
Rocket Boys (Sony Liv)
The maiden season of Rocket Boys opened to impressive reviews. The story features the true-life events of the life of the two incredible Indian scientists, Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha (Jim Sarbh) and Dr. Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai (Ishwak Singh). It can be streamed on Sony Liv.
Created by Nikhil Advani, Roy Kapur Films, and Emmay Entertainment, this biographical fictionalised drama is captivating and successfully recreates iconic moments from the past. It showcases the efforts of these scientists to propel the newly independent and struggling country forward on the path of technology.
