Raigarh/Jharsuguda: Former Brajrajnagar MLA Anup Sai, lodged in a jail in Chhattisgarh for his alleged involvement in a double murder since February, has tested positive for COVID-19.
He has been hospitalised, informed Raigarh Jailer on Wednesday.
According to family sources, Sai was initially admitted to a government hospital after he complained of chest pain on Tuesday afternoon. He was later shifted to Escort Fortis Hospital and is in the ICU, having suffered a massive heart stroke.
Notably, Sai was arrested by Raigarh police on February 12 in connection with the 2016 double murder of Kalpana Das (32) and her 14-year-old daughter.
Following his arrest, the three-time MLA was expelled from BJD. He had won the Brajrajnagar seat thrice on a Congress ticket between 2000 and 2009 before switching loyalty to the BJD in 2014. He was, however, denied party ticket from the constituency in 2019 elections.
