London: Jasprit Bumrah became the fastest Indian pacer to claim 100 Test wickets on Day 5 of the fourth Test against England at The Oval on Monday. India won the Test by 157 runs to take an unassailable 2-1 lead in the series with one Test to go.
Bumrah achieved the milestone in 24 Tests, one fewer than legendary Kapil Dev, who had achieved the target in 25 Tests. The list includes other Indian pacers — Irfan Pathan (28), Mohammed Shami (29) and Javagal Srinath (30).
Soon after Bumrah bowled Ollie Pope in the second innings at The Oval, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) tweeted about the pacer achieving the milestone. He later dismissed Jonny Bairstow too.
Among the Indian bowlers, Ravichandran Ashwin is the fastest to reach 100 Test scalps — reaching the landmark in just 18 Tests.
The other names in the list are Erapalli Prasanna (20), Anil Kumble (21), Subhash Gupte (22), BS Chandrasekhar (22) and Pragyan Ojha (22).
