Dhenkanal: A case of jaundice has been detected at Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya (OAV) in Biswanathpur under Gondia block of Dhenkanal district, amid allegation that over ten students were affected by the disease.
While parents and guardians have alleged that more than ten students are suffering from jaundice, the District Chief Medical Officer (CDMO) has officially confirmed that only one student has tested positive so far.
Officials said the matter has been brought to the notice of the District Collector and appropriate steps are being taken.
Following reports of lapses in cleanliness and sanitation on the school premises, a special health team from Gondia is scheduled to visit the school on Tuesday for a detailed inspection. Earlier, a health team from Barapada had already visited the institution to assess the situation and review preventive measures.
Meanwhile, the Additional District Education Officer (ADEO) of Gondia has ordered an inquiry into the incident to examine whether administrative lapses or poor hygiene conditions contributed to the reported case.
Assuring there is no cause for panic, Dhenkanal CDMO Dr Sanjay Kumar Mohapatra said only one confirmed report has been received so far.
Authorities have assured that all necessary steps will be taken to prevent the spread of infection and to ensure the safety and well-being of students.
