New York: A security scare was reported at the Ohio residence of US Vice-President JD Vance and his wife Usha around Sunday midnight after an intruder was spotted near their property.
Cincinnati police and US Secret Service agents were immediately deployed to the area, and a suspect was detained.
According to a statement from the US Secret Service, the suspect broke several windows of the property.
The identity of the individual or any possible motive behind the incident has not been disclosed. Officials are also not sure whether the suspect managed to enter the vice-president’s home.
The Vance family was not at home when the incident occurred, as JD, Usha and their kids are out of town, the agency informed.
“The U.S. Secret Service is coordinating with the Cincinnati Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office as charging decisions are reviewed,” the statement added.
A US Secret Service officer alerted local police at around 12.15 am after seeing a person “running eastbound” near JD and Usha Vance’s home in the East Walnut Hills neighbourhood, FOX19 reported.
Images from the incident site showed shattered windows at the property.
Officials said there is no threat to public safety, with the incident being under thorough investigation.
