Bhubaneswar: A Junior Engineer (JE) was apprehended by Odisha Vigilance on Saturday for allegedly accepting Rs 25,000 to facilitate release of payment under MGNREGS in Kashipur area of Rayagada district.
The accused was identified as Purna Chandra Choudhry, Junior Engineer in Kashipur Block of Rayagada.
The JE was caught while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs.25,000/- at his residence fom a Gaon Saathi (complainant) to take measurement of the work executed and for facilitating release of labour payment under MGNREGS, Vigilance said in a release.
The entire bribe money has been recovered from possession of Choudhry and seized.
Following the trap, search has been launched on his residence at Rayagada from Disproportionate Assets angle.
In this connection, a case has been registered and investigation is in progress.
