JE Caught Taking Bribe By Vigilance In Odisha’s Ganjam

Berhampur: A Junior Engineer was apprehended by Vigilance sleuths for allegedly taking Rs 10,000 bribe from a contractor for releasing pending bills for work executed under MGNREGS in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Tuesday.

The accused, identified as Jagadish Ku Sahu and posted in Purusottampur Block, was apprehended along with Gram Rozgar Sevak (GRS) Surjya Narayan Swain after Vigilance oficials laid a trap following a complaint.

The accused was caught accepting Rs10,000 from the contractor for facilitating release of pending bills in connection with work executed under MGNREG scheme, a Vigilance release said.

Jagadish Sahu  was nabbed by the vigilance team today when he accepted the bribe money from the complainant and handed over the same to Swain for counting inside the Block office. The entire bribe money has been  recovered from the possession of Swain and seized.

Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at three locations of Sahu from Disproportionate Assets angle.

A case was registered under section 7 PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 against both the accused persons. Investigation is in progress.
