Bhubaneswar: Jealously allegedly drove a 17-year-old boy to kill his younger sibling at Titlagarh in Odisha’s Balangir district.
Police, investigating the missing case of the 12-year-old boy, arrested the teenager on Saturday after he confessed to having killed and then buried the body close to their house one-and-a-half months back. The teenager told police that he felt neglected by his parents, who favoured his younger sibling.
The missing complaint was lodged on June 29.
The finger of suspicion turned towards the 17-year-old when his mother, during questioning, told police that she saw her elder son (the accused) washing the floor when she returned home on June 28 evening, which was unusual.
Police sources said the accused then admitted to stabbing his brother with a kitchen knife, cleaning blood from the floor, and using an agricultural tool to dig two pits. “The boy first buried the body behind the house. Later at night when his parents went off to sleep, he dug another pit about 300 metres from the house and shifted it there at around 2 am,” Balangir SP Abilash G told the media.
The SP said that the scene of crime was recreated with the accused on Sunday. “Police, forensic and medical teams along with executive magistrate were present. The knife used in the crime along with the tool using for digging the pits and a saree of the mother which he had used to shift the boy was seized,” he said.
The body was also exhumed and sent to medical college in Balangir for postmortem. The minor accused in the case is being treated under the category of Children In Conflict with Law (CICL), he added.
