Balasore: A jewellery shop owner was allegedly robbed of Rs 10 lakh worth of valuables at gun point in Odisha’s Balasore district late on Saturday.
According to sources, Gagan Pradhan was allegedly waylaid by three youths, wielding guns, around 10 pm near Amarda railway station road under Basta police limits while returning home on his motorcycle with a bag carrying 50 gram of gold after closing his family’s jewellery shop. “Three men stopped me from behind and put a gun to my head. When I protested, they beat me with an iron rod. They grabbed the bag containing gold and sped away,” he told the media.
The estimated value of the gold he was carrying is around Rs 10 lakh.
It is being suspected that the attackers carried out the robbery with proper planning, including tracking the movements of the owners. Basta police have begun an investigation and efforts are underway to nab the miscreants.
