Jajpur: The Jajpur District and Sessions Court on Monday allowed Kuakhia Police to take Rakesh Swain,, who has been arrested in connection with the mysterious death of his girlfriend Jharaphula Nayak, on a three-day remand.
The court directed Kuakhia Police to take the accused on a three-day remand from Tuesday forenoon and produce him in the court on Friday, said the public prosecutor Samarendra Das.
During the remand period, police will interrogate the accused on the circumstances in which the Plus III student of Rama Devi Women’s University, died in the guesthouse at Dharma Vihar here on January 26.
It may be mentioned that Jharaphula’s body was found in a field along the roadside near Mulapala Chhak in Jajpur district on January 27 morning.
In course of investigation, Kuakhia police arrested Swain from Sundarpada area in Bhubaneswar on the same day.
However, police are still on the hunt for Swain’s accused with whom he had taken Jharaphula’s body on a scooter and dumped it near Mulapala.
Meanwhile, police have sealed the room of OYO Siva Sai Guesthouse where Rakesh and Jharaphula had spent the night on January 26.
