Bhubaneswar: Jharsuguda in Odisha witnessed a sharp rise of 4.2°C in the night temperature in the last 24 hours owing to an approaching western disturbance and moisture incursions due to the presence of an anti-cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal.
Senior meteorological Umasankar Das mentioned this while explaining the reason behind the rise in the mercury after the industrial town saw a dip of over 8°C at night in the last 3 days, through a post on X.
Jharsuguda recorded 14.4°C on Tuesday, as against 11.2°C the previous day. G Udayagiri recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 9.8°C followed by Phulbani (11.5°C) and Rourkela (13.2°C), which was 3.6°C more than on Monday.
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 19.8°C and 18.2°C respectively, as against 17.9°C and 18°C the previous day.
Odisha also saw a rise in the day temperature on Monday with Jharsuguda at 34.8°C followed by Sambalpur (34°C) and Bhubaneswar (33°C) at 2.40 pm as against 33°C, 31.2°C and 31.6°C respectively during the same time the previous day.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast no large change in the night temperature during the next two days. The mercury may fall by 2-4°C during the subsequent two days, it added.
The weather agency has also predicted shallow to moderate fog during early morning hours at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Malkangiri and Mayurbhanj till February 14.
