Dhenkanal: Mortal remains of CISF jawan Manoj Biswal, who was killed after torrential rain triggered a flash flood at a remote village in Jammu & Kashmir’s Kishtwar district on August 14, were consigned to flames at his native village in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Monday morning.
Chants of “Veer Jawan Manoj Biswal Amar Rahe” reverberated in Manikamara village under Parjang block as his body was taken in a solemn procession to the crematorium. A ceremonial guard of honour was also accorded to CISF jawan before the cremation.
Biswal’s elder daughter lit the funeral pyre.
Former Parjang MLA Nrusingha Charan Sahu and former Dhenkanal MP Mahesh Sahoo, along with a large number of people, were present.
The 32-year-old jawan was posted in Kashmir on deputation about two months ago. The cloudburst occurred at around 12.30 pm in the Chashoti area of Kishtwar when Biswal was reportedly resting after duty hours. At least 60 people were killed and more than 100 injured as the floods that followed swept away an entire locality.
