New Delhi: Hours after quitting Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s sister-in-law Sita Soren joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday.
She is the daughter-in-law of JMM president Sibu Soren.
Sita was inducted into the saffron party at its headquarters in New Delhi in the presence of BJP national general secretary Vinod Tawde and Jharkhand poll in-charge Laxmikant Bajpai.
A three-time JMM MLA, she sent her resignation to Shibu Soren, alleging that that party had failed to provide adequate support to her and her family after the death of her husband, Durga Soren. She also expressed unhappiness over the party’s decision to accommodate people whose principles do not align with JMM’s ethos. “I have become aware of a conspiracy being orchestrated against me and my family… I am left with no choice but to tender my resignation,” she wrote.
Sita Soren’s decision to join the BJP could be a jolt to JMM’s efforts to continue to get the support of its main vote bank, the Scheduled Tribes.
