JNU V-C Jagadesh Kumar Frontrunner For IIT-Delhi Director’s Post
New Delhi: Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), M Jagadesh Kumar is among the frontrunners for the next IIT-Delhi director’s post. A search-cum-selection committee has shortlisted six names during a meeting on Monday.
According to The Indian Express, the other names that are doing the rounds are IIT-Bombay Professor Rangan Banerjee and IIT-Delhi Professor Santosh Kapuria.
A separate meeting was also held to choose the directors of IIT-Indore and IIT-Mandi. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was among those present in the meetings.
It may be recalled that on completion of his five-year term as JNU VC on January 26 this year, Jagadesh Kumar was asked by the education ministry to continue in the post till a successor is found. Kumar served as a professor of electrical engineering at IIT-Delhi before being given JNU responsibility.
IIT-Bombay professor Banerjee is a PhD in mechanical engineering from the same institute and also a Forbes Marshall Chair Professor in the Department of Energy Science and Engineering. Kapuria is an Applied Mechanics professor at IIT-Delhi. He also served as the Director of CSIR-SERC between December 2015 and December 2020.
