Bhubaneswar: The Joint Typhoon Warning Centre (JTWC) has issued cyclone alert in Bay of Bengal and the system is likely to make landfall in southwest Bangladesh in 12 hours at around 75 kmph.

“Tropical cyclone (TC) 04B is forecast to track northwestward along the western side of the steering ridge, with landfall expected within the next 12 hours in the vicinity of Kuakata, Bangladesh. no significant change in the intensity are expected, with landfall at or near 40 knots. After landfall, the system will track generally west-northwest while slowly weakening due to land interaction, before dissipating over eastern India no later than tau 36m” it said on Tuesday.

The Indo-Pacific Tropical Cyclone Warning Center had earlier said that the environmental conditions are forecast to gradually improve over the next 24 hours before landfall in Bangladesh or West Bengal and a short-lived cyclonic storm is likely.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has, however, not issued any cyclone alert. “The Depression over Northeast Bay of Bengal intensified into a Deep Depression at 8.30 am, about 160 km east-southeast of Khepupara (Bangladesh) and 420 km east of Digha (West Bengal). To move northwestwards and cross Bangladesh coast close to east of Khepupara by this evening. Thereafter, it is very likely to move west-northwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal during subsequent 24 hours.”

WIND WARNING

Squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is prevailing over North & adjoining Central Bay of Bengal and along & off Bangladesh-West Bengal coasts and 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph along & off North Odisha coast. It is likely to increase and become 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph over North & adjoining Central Bay of Bengal and along & off West Bengal- Bangladesh coasts during next 12 hours and 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph along & off North Odisha coast during the same period. Thereafter, the same wind speed would continue over the above regions for subsequent 12 hours and decrease thereafter.

SEA CONDITION

Rough to very rough sea condition is very likely to prevail over North & adjoining Central Bay of Bengal and along & off Bangladesh-West Bengal-North Odisha coasts till forenoon of August 2.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into North & adjoining Central Bay of Bengal and along & off Bangladesh-West Bengal-North Odisha coasts during this period.
