Bhubaneswar: Odisha has been witnessing a surge in COVID-19 cases since July, which is being attributed to more number of tests and door-to-door survey to identify people with symptoms.
Despite the government’s assurance that Odisha has fared better than other states in both positivity and fatality rate, the rising cases which swelled by more than four times in the month of July have people worried.
July registered 78.14 per cent growth in COVID-19 cases with the affected tally shooting up from 7,316 to 33,479. Similarly, the death toll jumped from 25 to 187, which is a rise of 86.63 per cent.
The month saw an average of 844 cases and five deaths a day.
July also saw a rise in local cases. From only 15.72 per cent on July 1 to 38 per cent by the end of the month..
