Kalinga Ghat In Odisha Reopens After 46 Days; Light Vehicles Allowed On Another Key Hilly Road

Phulbani: In a major relief for commuters, the Kalinga Ghat road in Odisha’s Kandhamala district reopened to traffic after remaining closed for 46 days due to the risk of landslides.

According to an order issued by Kandhamala Collector Vedbhushan, all categories of vehicles will be allowed to ply on Kalinga Ghat from today.

It may be noted that the Kalinga Ghat road was closed from September 23 as a precautionary measure following heavy rain and fear of landslide. The closure order was issued on September 24 to avoid any untoward incident.

Following repair of the road, the administration has decided to allow movement of all vehicles in the public interest. The order will remain in force until further orders.

Similarly, the district administration has allowed movement of light motor vehicles on the Daringbadi-Gajalbadi Ghat road after temporary repair.

The ghat road was damaged following heavy rain triggered by cyclone ‘Arnab’ and vehicular movement was restricted. The road was closed since October 27.

For the interest of the public and after temporary repair of the road, it has been decided to allow light motor vehicles only, officials said.

The Collector has directed all concerned authorities including Superintendent of Police, Kandhamala, Superintending Engineer, National Highways, Executive Engineer, Sub-Collector, Tehsildar and local police to ensure strict compliance and restrict movement of heavy vehicles on the said route.
