Bhubaneswar: The Odisha capital got more green lungs and open space with Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) throwing open seven new mini parks for the public at Kalinga Nagar here.
These parks of less than half an acre built with an investment of Rs 37 lakh-Rs 47 lakh has facilities like yoga podium, open gym jogging track, drinking water and toilet, benches and children’s play area, among others. Plantation has been planned along 150-metre radius of these parks. There is also a water spray facility.
The parks are in Kalinga Nagar, K5, K4, K3A and K1 localities, a major residential area with more than 1,300 housing units.
According to BMC sources, these parks have been developed under Mukhyamantri Karma Tatpara Yojana (MUKTA) scheme to support Self Help Groups (SHGs), who along with community members are involved in the planning and execution of the projects.
There are 64 such parks in 67 wards and steps are being taken to create at least 50 more parks in residential areas of the city in a phased manner.
