Bhubaneswar: As many as 30 activists of Kalinga Sena, were taken into preventive custody on Wednesday ahead of their protest against Valentine’s Day celebrations.
The activists, led by the party’s president Hemant Rath, were detained from their Baramunda office. The members had planned to take out a massive demonstration on Valentine Day and stage picketing at different places.
“Valentine’s Day is hampering the tradition and culture of our country. We strongly oppose the immoral activities of young boys and girls on the occasion,” Rath said.
However, there are no reports of any couples being harassed by anyone thus far.
“The Commissionerate Police has made elaborate security arrangements at several places including shopping malls, cinema halls and parks to swing into action in case of any untoward incident, sources said. Strict action will be taken against those who will take the law into their hands”, Police Commissioner YB Khurania said.
