Bhubaneswar: The UNICEF, Odisha in collaboration with Aaina, an Odisha-based voluntary organisation launched the fifth edition of Kallola, a short film contest on child rights, here on Monday.

The theme of the contest is Nutrition-Every Child’s Right For A Healthy Life. Kallola 2019 has invited entries for short films (30, 60 and 90 seconds) on the theme

UNICEF Odisha Chief, Dr Monika O Nielsen, Women and Child Development Department Joint Secretary, Rashmi Ranjan Nayak, eminent theatre personality, Ananta Mohapatra and Aaina secretary, Sneha Mishra were present, among others on the occasion,

The sub themes are, ‘A Balanced Diet For Growing Children’ and ‘Ending Gender Discrimination In Nutrition.’

Dr Monika Nielsen said, “We all know that nutrition in the food we eat helps us grow and develop, gives us energy and keeps us healthy. Yet, many children remain undernourished, affecting their ability to develop (physically and mentally), go to school and work. Nutrition is more than just eating food and a multi-faceted theme. I am happy that this year we will explore some of the important elements of appropriate nutrition through the Kallola short films.”

The contest is open to professional filmmakers, film students, amateurs or anyone with a good idea and film-making skills.

Interested participants can log on to www.aaina.org.in/kallola for information on the contest, themes, rules and the entry form.

A thematic and technical workshop will be held on September 8 in Bhubaneswar. Interested participants can register themselves online to attend this workshop (http://aaina.org.in/kallola/Registration.asp).

The last date of receiving entries for the contest is October 11.

The best five films will be awarded, informed the organiser.

“By the age of five years, a child’s brain develops more than at any other time in life. For this, nutrition plays a vital role, which is a right of a child,” said Ananta Mohapatra.
