Kalyan Mandap On College Premises In Bhubaneswar Sealed
Bhubaneswar: A Kalyan Mandap, operating from the premises of Pandit Nilakantha College of Library and Information Science at Gajapati Nagar here, was sealed on Monday.
A special squad of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) sealed the mandap for alleged violations of guidelines.
The process to seal the mandaps, which were found flouting norms, began this morning. It was joint drive by BMC and the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA).
The BMC had earlier served notice to 94 mandaps and set January 31 as deadline to rectify the irregularities. These are allegedly functioning without building plan approval, trade licence, paying property tax and adequate parking facility.
BMC Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary said that 34 of 94 Kalyan Mandaps had submitted some compliance. “The drive will continue in phases,” he added.
In December last year, the BMC had declared 29 Kalyan Mandaps and Marriage Mandaps under the jurisdiction of North Zone as illegal and unauthorised for allegedly functioning without licence, holding tax, proper building plan and waste management procedure. These also created traffic congestion.
