‘Kamala Harris Could Be President Of US’: Is Biden Thinking Of Stepping Aside?

Washington: Kamala Harris has already scripted history as the first Indian-American as well as the first female Vice-President of USA.

Will she now get a crack at the ultimate post, American Presidency?

Joe Biden’s comment during the annual convention of National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) sparked speculation whether the US President may ultimately pull out of the race against Donald Trump.

There have been calls for 81-year-old Biden to step aside from his bid to get re-elected as US President due to his advancing age and repeated gaffes in public.

Biden’s poor performance in the first Presidential debate a few weeks ago added to the concerns within the Democratic Party about his fitness to serve a second term.

Biden, though, refused to withdraw from the Presidential race.

“She’s not only a great vice-president, she could be President of the United States,” Biden said of the 59-year-old Harris.

During his speech at the NAACP annual convention, Biden went on to say that he had made plans for the first 100 days of his second term.

It’s clear that Harris has emerged as the top alternative to replace Biden and take up the fight against Trump.

Daughter of Tamil Nadu-born Shyamala Gopalan, who moved to the US as a 19-year-old graduate student in 1958 and established herself as a biologist, Harris has said she is ready to debate JD Vance, Trump’s running mate, in the vice-presidential debate.

The White House has also declared Harris as ‘the future of the Democratic Party’.

Harris and Trump were nearly tied in a CNN poll, with 47% of registered voters supporting the former President and 45% backing the incumbent Vice-President.
