New Delhi: Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut and her sister Rangoli Chandel, who are facing prosecution in three criminal cases in Mumbai for critical remarks on social media, have moved the Supreme Court seeking transfer of these cases to Shimla in Himachal Pradesh.
In a petition filed in the top court, the two sisters claimed that they apprehend threat to their life and property if the trial in the cases continued in Mumbai.
“It is pertinent to mention that the Maharashtra government led by Shiv Sena has been harassing the petitioners… The petitioners face a threat unto life if the trials proceed in Mumbai, because of personal vendetta of Shiv Sena leaders against the petitioner,” said the petition filed through Advocate Neeraj Shekhar, Bar and Bench portal reported.
The petition also referred to a statement by Shiv Sena leader and MP, Sanjay Raut, who allegedly called Kangana “haramkhor ladki”.
Kangana and Rangoli have claimed that all cases against them are frivolous and filed with malicious intent to harass them and malign their public image.
Notably, the cases include a criminal defamation complaint filed against Ranaut by noted Bollywood lyricist, Javed Akhtar.
