Konjhar: The Keonjhar district and sessions court on Thursday convicted three persons in the case of rape of a woman in Sundargarh district in 2017 and sentenced them to rigorous imprisonment for 20 years. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on each convict.
According to case records, the convicts Rajesh Lakra, Lala Gudia and Mehmia Lakhra had confessed to police that they had raped the woman while she was returning home from farm field.
One of the accused has also been awarded an additional sentence of three months for threatening the rape survivor.
The case was initially registered under Bisra police limits in Sundargarh district. Later, it was transferred to Keonjhar district and sessions court for trial due to advocates’ strike in 2019, sources said.
