Trivandrum: With vote counting for the Kerala state Assembly elections underway on Monday, the decade-long rule of the Left government led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan appears to be heading towards a decisive end.
As per the early trends, a sweeping victory for the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) is on the cards. UDF is leading in 77 out of 140 seats, crossing the halfway mark
At the end of the third round of counting around 11.30am, Vijayan himself is trailing in Dharmadam. Meanwhile, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Monday expressed confidence that his party would secure a comfortable majority to form the government.
“I am very enthusiastic. The trends so far are positive and better than we expected. I believe we will see good results today and secure a comfortable majority,” he told IANS.
