Bhubaneswar: DGP Y B Khurania has expressed strong displeasure over the frequent absence of senior IPS officers, posted in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, from official events organised by various wings of the state police force.
The state police headquarters on Monday issued a formal directive to 36 IPS officers serving in these cities, instructing them to make it a point to attend all such functions without fail. “It has been observed by DGP that many senior officers are not attending official functions organised by different verticals of Odisha police. It is, therefore, requested to make it convenient to attend the said official functions without fail,” the communique, signed by additional director general (headquarters) Prateek Mohanty, read.
The letter has been described as a clear “diktat” from the top, though it includes a provision for exemptions. In cases of unavoidable prior official commitments, officers must seek specific permission directly from the DGP himself, it added.
According to sources, the directive followed as Khurania took serious note of absenteeism during the felicitation ceremony at Police Bhawan here on Monday to honour sports personnel serving in Odisha police who had excelled in national and state-level competitions, bringing laurels to the force.
