Mumbai: Actress Kiara Advani has reportedly signed her first film post-delivery, the highly-anticipated biopic on ‘tragedy queen’ Meena Kumari.
The film, titled ‘Kamal Aur Meena’, was announced by Siddharth P Malhotra last year.
Since then, fans have been anxious to find out who the lead actress will be, with rumours suggesting that Kiara and Kriti Sanon were being considered for the role.
Now, according to a Mid-Day report, Kiara has been finalised to play the character of the legendary actress in the biopic.
“The negotiations were going on for months. In Kiara, the director has found a performer who carries vintage Bollywood charm and has the emotional depth to do justice to Meena Kumari’s life,” a source was quoted as saying.
The report also stated that shooting of the film will commence from 2026.
Another source shared, “It gives Kiara enough time to prepare, as she will have to pick up the basics of Urdu.”
However, the male lead is yet to be finalised.
The film will showcase the real-life romance between director-screenwriter Kamal Amrohi and Meena Kumari.
Sharing the teaser of ‘Kamal Aur Meena’ in September last year, Siddharth wrote, “With access to over 500 handwritten letters exchanged between Kamal Sahaab and Meenaji as well as personal journals detailing their life together the insights and research we have in telling this story in invaluable. It’s a profound privilege to direct this incredible true story, though the responsibility is immense.”
On the work front, Kiara was last seen in ‘War 2’ with Hrithik Roshan.
The actress will next be seen in ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups’, which will also feature Yash and Nayanthara.
