Bhubaneswar: Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari read out his budget speech from an iPad at the Odisha Assembly here on Tuesday.
All MLAs were handed over iPads with pen drive containing budget documents.
This is for the first time that Odisha government has switched to digital method to reduce printing of documents for the budget. Any individual can download Odisha Budget, the android-based app developed by the government, and access the digital form of the documents in real time once the finance minister presents the annual budget for 2020-21 financial year.
Over 700 big trees were saved in the state’s bid to present a paperless budget, Pujari claimed, adding that the overall cost for printing of budget documents had reduced significantly.
With this, Odisha became the second state in country to present a paperless budget.
