Puri: Flags of different colours atop the Shri Jagannath temple are a common sight, but the white flag has a special significance, according to the sevayats.
“Usually, the devotees donate the red, yellow and white flags to the temple to fulfill their wishes. The temple administration selects one of the flags to be tied atop the temple through a lottery. But what we have observed is that whenever a white flag is tied to the Neelachakra (blue wheel) atop the temple, the weather in Puri changes with either rainfall or strong wind. As you see that the weather in Puri has remained cloudy today as a white flag is fluttering atop the temple,” said Sarat Mohanty, the Chunara sevayat.
