New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday announced Rs. 90,000 crore liquidity injection for discoms under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, an economic stimulus package of Rs 20-lakh-crore (estimated at 10% of the GDP) announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi the previous day.
Amid the COVID-19 crisis, the revenue of power distribution companies have plummeted and unprecedented cash problem has been accentuated by demand reduction, she said.
Under this package, loans will be given against state guarantees for exclusive purpose of
discharging liabilities of Discoms to Gencos.
