Raipur: A trainee Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Rahul Bansal is at the centre of an alleged Rs 1 crore corruption case. The allegations have been raised against the 2022-batch officer, who had his first field posting in Chhattisgarh.
Bansal is posted as a city superintendent of police. Bansal along with assistant sub-inspector Praveen Kumar Rathore and constable Anshul Sharma, as reported by HT, have been accused of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1 crore to cover up a cyber fraud case.
According to the report, Bansal was working as an Income Tax Inspector before joining the IPS and he was posted as a CSP officer in Chhattisgarh.
The matter has been taken up at a Special CBI Court in Delhi. The court has sought an Action Taken Report from the DGP of Chhattisgarh and the director of the CBI.
According to the complaint, Rs 1 crore bribe was not paid in a single transaction. Instead, it was claimed the payoff was made through hawala channels.
In another case, the Navi Mumbai Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a senior Sales Tax official for allegedly demanding Rs 8 lakh bribe from a scrap trader to close a Goods and Services Tax (GST) inquiry, PTI reported.
