Kolkata: Days after being lambasted for saying that the junior doctor’s sexual assault and murder at state-run RG Kar Medical College & Hospital was a ‘stray incident’, Sourav Ganguly took to the streets to register his protest against the heinous crime.
The former Team India captain first joined wife Dona Ganguly and daughter Sana Ganguly at a candlelight protest in Behala on Wednesday evening.
As the Gangulys lit candles, fellow protesters sang Rabindranath Tagore’s ‘Aguner Poroshmoni’.

Thereafter, they walked with hundreds of protesters to Dona’s dance school ‘Diksha Manjari’, which organised the protest. All students, teachers and staff of the dance school were clad in black clothes as they marched in solidarity amid showers.
Like millions of other protesters in different parts of Kolkata, their simple demand was: “We want justice.”
“This protest is very important… protest has to go on… she (RG Kar victim) must get justice,” said Sana.
Dona said, “We are protesting against rape. We need a safe society for all. Rape needs to stop.”
