Bhubaneswar: The state tourism department is all set to organise the
five-day twin mega events of Konark Festival and International Sand
Art Festival from December 1.
“The annual festival will be held in the open air auditorium with
famous Sun Temple at the backdrop with ten highly-acclaimed dance
groups from the country and abroad along with famous artistes of
Odissi, Kuchipudi, Bharatnatyam, Kathak and Mohiniattam. This year,
two groups from Malaysia such as The Temple of Fine Arts will perform
Bharatnatyam and The Sutra Foundation led by maestro Ramli Ibrahim and
group would present Odissi dance. Besides, Odissi by Dona Ganguly &
Group from Kolkata, Kathak by Nirupama Rajendra & Group,Kuchipudi by
Vanashree Rao & Group,Manupuri by Bimbabati & Group, Odissi by
Kaishiki Mumbai, Mohiniattam by Kanak Rele & Group, Odissi by Guru
Kelu Charan Mohapatra (GKCM) Odissi Research Centre and Nupur Dance
Academy will perform in the cultural extravaganza”, tourism director
Nitin B Jawale informed in a press conference here on Wednesday.
Similarly, the International Sand Art Festival will have 8
international sand artists from France, Germany, Ghana, Sri Lanka,
Singapore, Canada, Russia, Mexico and 62 national sand artists. The
national sand artists will take part in solo, duo, women and
differently abled categories with 41 stalls to be erected, Jawale
added.
