Koraput Gears Up For Emergency Situation After Heavy Rain Forecast

Koraput: Following Ganjam, Koraput district administration has geared up to meet the exigencies in view of the forecast of heavy rainfall on October 19 and 20 under the influence of another low pressure over the Bay of Bengal.

At a preparatory meeting held in this regard on Saturday, district collector Mudhusudan Mishra directed the officials to remain alert for any emergency situation and not leave the district headquarters for next two days.

Anticipating that inflow of flood water may lead to the swelling of Surli river, the collector asked the officials to be vigilant of landslide incidents.

The PWD department has been asked to keep the equipment ready and clear the roads if uprooted trees disrupt communication due to the rain. Tehsildars have been asked to start preparation in their areas to tackle any rain-related urgencies.

On Saturday, Ganjam collector Vijay Amrit Kulange held an emergency meeting of the district officers held through video-conferencing and said since all the water bodies including dams, rivers and ponds are filled up due to heavy rain last week, the situation would escalate in case of further rain.
