Kozhikode Crash: CISF Personnel Who Rescued Passengers Sent On Quarantine

Kozhikode: Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, who took part in the rescue operation of the Air India Express plane that crashed in Kozhikode on Friday evening, have been asked to quarantine themselves after two of the injured passengers tested positive for coronavirus.

“We have asked all CISF personnel who took part in the rescue mission to go into quarantine after the health ministry informed that two injured persons had tested positive. Earlier local people who were the first to carry out rescue work were also asked to go for quarantine,” said a senior airport official.

Eighteen people, including the pilot and his assistant, were killed when the Dubai-Kozhikode repatriation flight overshot the runway at the table-top Kozhikode international airport and fell into a 35-feet gorge. The aircraft, with 190 people on board, broke into two pieces.

About 50 injured passengers have been discharged from various hospitals in Kerala, while 28 are still being treated. Fifteen people are still learnt to be in a serious state.

The black box of the plane was recovered has been sent to Delhi.

Union Civil Aviation minister Hardeep Singh Puri, who visited the accident site on Saturday, announced a Rs 10 lakh interim relief to the families of the deceased.
