Balasore: The Kuldiha Wildlife Sanctuary in Odisha’s Balasore district reopened to visitors on Saturday, marking the beginning of the new tourist season for nature lovers after a six-month closure since June.

As per official sources, tourists will also be allowed to visit the Gadadasimulia and Mechkund waterfalls this year. The move is expected to allow visitors to enjoy the scenic beauty of these natural sites, which are among the key attractions within the reserve.

According to Ranger-cum-Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Subrat Kumar Behera, the sanctuary has been reopened in line with government guidelines.

Visitors can now explore the Rissia Nature Camp, Rissia Dam, and nearby waterfalls. They can also witness the deer translocated from Nandankanan Zoological Park, whose population has increased over time, he said.

The sanctuary gate was formally opened at 8 am through a ribbon-cutting ceremony by the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO).

Because of manpower constraints, the sanctuary is continuing with a single entry and exit point. However, tourists can comfortably go inside, take a round, and return, he said.

The reopening of the sanctuary has brought cheer to nature enthusiasts and local tourism operators, who expect an increase in visitor footfall during the winter season.
