Mumbai: Actor Shruti Haasan had an awkward encounter during a recent public outing after a paparazzo addressed her as “mumma,” prompting a sharp reaction.
The actor, who is usually seen interacting politely with photographers, appeared visibly irritated when the comment crossed a line.
The incident took place as she was exiting a restaurant and was surrounded by shutterbugs.
While posing for pictures, Shruti lost her composure after one of the photographers called her “mumma.”
She responded strongly. “Kaun hai mumma? Aapki mumma hai? Kya bak rahe ho tum? (Who is ‘mumma’? Is it your mother? What are you even saying?)”
A video soon surfaced on X, triggering mixed reactions online.
While some users backed Shruti and criticised paparazzi for being overly familiar and intrusive, others questioned her response.
One user commented, “Why would anyone call her mumma, she’s right here.”
Another said, “Seriously, these paparazzi have no manners to talk with people.”
Highlighting the awkwardness of the situation, one person stated, “Called her ‘Mumma’ on the way to a party… and got a reply they’ll remember forever.”
Another noted, “He isn’t her son or anything, right?”

Such incidents are not new, with actors like Jaya Bachchan, Salman Khan, Ranbir Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan previously clashing with photographers over similar issues.
On the work front, Shruti will next appear in ‘Aakasamlo Oka Tara’ alongside Dulquer Salmaan and Satvika Veeravalli.
