Bhubaneswar: The mortal remains of Bijay Nayak, a native of Badamachpur village under Nimapada block in Odisha’s Puri who passed away at Palghat in Kerala, arrived in Bhubaneswar on Thursday.
“With cooperation of the Labour Commissioner and Puri administration, his dead body reached Bhubaneswar airport today. I paid my last respects and expressed my condolences to the bereaved family,” Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, who is also Nimapada MLA, posted on social media.
Nayak was working as a trailer truck driver in Kerala. He, however, fell ill and decided to return home. His condition worsened at Palghat station while travelling back home in a train on August 26. With the help of some coolies at the station, he was admitted to a nearby hospital. However, he died during treatment.
After receiving the news of his death, family members of Nayak appealed to the Deputy CM to help them bring back his body to the village for his last rites.
Expressing grief over Nayak’s death, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi has also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh for the bereaved family.
