Lucknow: Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra was arrested by UP Police around 11 pm on Saturday night after almost 12 hours of questioning in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case.
An FIR had been filed against Ashish after his car allegedly ran over protesting farmers in UP’s Lakhimpur district on October 3. Four farmers, three BJP workers and a journalist were killed.
Despite Ashish being booked, police took no action against him for three days. The Supreme Court, taking suo motu cognizance of the violence, then ordered UP Police to file a status report within a day on how many arrests have been made.
Police then swung into action and summoned Ashish for questioning on Friday. He stayed away but was again directed to report at 11 am on Saturday.
He did finally turn up and maintained that he was attending a wrestling event, some 4-5 km from the site of the violence.
But according to Saharanpur DIG Upendra Agarwal, he was not cooperating during interrogation and didn’t answer a few questions.
“He will be produced before the court,” said Agarwal.
