Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Saturday arrested Managing Director (MD) of Raiboga LAMPCS Ltd in Sundargarh’s Kuarmunda block, Chitta Ranjan Mohanty, for allegedly misappropriating Rs 40.68 lakh government funds.
According to a Vigilance release, he embezzled Rs 40,68,000 by showing fake excess expenditure in the Day Book of Raiboga LAMPCS during 2019-2020 & 2023-2024 financial years. “Inquiry revealed that the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Sundargarh District Central Co-operative (SDCC) Bank Ltd, Sundargarh Branch, had issued several letters to Mohanty categorically mentioning for recovery of Rs 43,02,000 from Raiboga LAMPCS.”
On verification of the bank records, officers of Odisha Vigilance found that Rs 40,68,000 was to be recovered from the MD instead of Rs 43,02,000. The error was attributed to wrong calculation made by the SDCC Bank.
During further inquiry, it was ascertained that Mohanty neither deposited that amount in SDCC Bank Ltd, Sundargarh, nor produced any documents/supporting vouchers connected to excess expenditure incurred by him. “This amounts to criminal misconduct, causing wrongful loss to the state exchequer,” it added.
A case has been registered under section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(a) Prevention of Corruption (amendment) Act, 2018 and 409 of the IPC and further investigation is underway.
The release further informed that six corrupt government functionaries nabbed and sent to jail for bribery and misappropriation, and one more detained following simultaneous operations in Bhubaneswar, Sambalpur, Rourkela and Berhampur.
They include 4 former secretaries of 3 PACSs – Bhubaneswar Sahu, Bhagaban Patel, Chhabila Behera & Kantilal Bhoi (Rs 65 lakh misappropriation in Sambalpur); LAMPCS MD LAMPCS Chittaranjan Mohanty (Rs 40.68 lakh misappropriation in Rourkela); Revenue Inspector Debasis Nayak arrested for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 7,000; Assistant Project Manager, OWSSB, Bhubaneswar, Debasis Sahoo detained following house search in a disproportionate assets case.
