Berhampur: A total of 17,771 migrant workers from different states have returned to Ganjam district till April 26 in the wake of the second wave of COVID-19.

District collector Vijay Amrit Kulange said this while reviewing a COVID-19 management meeting through video-conferencing on Tuesday. All the migrants, who have returned, have registered their names and the number is quite lower than last year, he added.

He stressed on registration of the returnees, proper health screening, quarantine and treatment from panchayat level to all the places. This would help contain the spread of infection and the COVID graph would register a downward trend, he said.

The collector further said during the first wave of COVID-19 last year, the infected persons recovered after taking medicines only. But during the second wave, oxygen is the main mode of treatment.

He ordered the electricity supply authority to ensure uninterrupted power supply to all Covid Care Centres (CCC) and Dedicated Covid Hospitals (DCH).

Stating that all developmental works in the district would continue in Ganjam, he said, “We have not involved the engineers in COVID-19 management and the process of the developmental works must go on.”
