Schitt’s Creek co-creator and star Daniel Levy called out Comedy Central India for censoring a kiss scene between two male characters, David (played by Daniel) and Ted, in the multiple Emmy-winning series.
Levy retweeted a post from March 19, 2019, from the TV channel’s page where the kiss between David and Ted (played by actor Dustin Milligan) had been edited from the three-minute clip.
Levy criticized the channel for removing that kiss while retaining other kissing scenes — between Stevie (played by Emily Hampshire) and Alexis (played by Annie Murphy) — from the same episode of the fifth season.
“This is a show about the power of inclusivity. The censorship of gay intimacy is making a harmful statement against that message. #LoveIsLove,” Emmy award-winning actor Levy tweeted.
Schitt’s Creek swept nine awards in the comedy category, including best comedy series, in the Emmys held last month. The Canadian show is about the wealthy and privileged Rose family, which is forced to relocate to a small town after losing their wealth. The series has been applauded for normalizing LGBTQ+ relations and its inclusivity.
