Lifetime Achievement Award For Odisha-Born Transplant Surgeon Mukut Minz

Bhubaneswar: Odisha-born surgeon Mukut Minz, who has performed over 3500 successful kidney transplant, was conferred with Lifetime Achievement award by PGIMER Chandigarh during its recent 3-day summit to commemorate five decades of achievements in organ transplantation.

A native of Sundargarh, Minz completed his MBBS from the erstwhile VSS Medical College in Burla. He joined PGIMER in 1980, and was instrumental in setting up the Department of Renal Transplant at the institute. He retired as the head of the department of renal transplant surgery on July 30, 2016.

He mentored the Odisha government’s plan to set up a kidney transplant unit at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack. He also led the AIIMS (All-India Institute of Medical Sciences) team in New Delhi that carried out former external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj’s kidney transplant in 2016.

In 2014, he was awarded the Odisha Gourav Samman by the government of Odisha for his contribution in the field of organ transplantation. Minz received a Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) from Utkal University in February 2017. He was also conferred with the Padma Shri for his contribution in medicine the same year.
